The National Institutes of Health, which includes the National Institute on Drug Abuse, announced 4 grants to HIV researchers. The Avant-Garde Award “is intended to stimulate high-impact research that may lead to groundbreaking opportunities for the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS in drug abusers” (drugabuse.gov). The researchers will each receive $500,000 per year, in addition to facilities and administrative costs, for five years, in order to pursue their projects.
