“It is shame and stigma that make you not protect yourself, make you not treat yourself with respect.” – Lady Gaga

Personal opinions aside, the numbers don’t lie. With 60 million singles, six number one songs, videos viewed over 8 billion times, and now the fastest selling single in iTunes history, we are living in a Gaga generation.

Wearing a latex condom inspired suit, Lady Gaga appeared on Good Morning America last Thursday to talk about her involvement in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

While Gaga recognizes that this conversation is not the easiest one to have, she asserts that “it is shame and stigma that make you not protect yourself, make you not treat yourself with respect.”

She’s right. Any means to an end begins with a conversation, and who better to upset social norms and taboos than the woman who spent three days in a plastic egg before being “reborn” at the Grammys last Sunday.

Gaga encourages people all over the world “to speak with your friends, your parents, your sisters, your brothers, your uncles, your aunts, all the loved ones in your life, about safe sex, about protection, because [AIDS] is a 100% disease that we can protect and that we can prevent, but it is 0% curable.”
